Catalyst Fund Exits its MENA Solar Portfolio
18 December 2023
Amman – Catalyst is proud to announce the successful sale this last summer of 90% of the Catalyst MENA Clean Energy Fund (CMCF) portfolio, with top quartile returns versus its peers. Catalyst sold four (4) utility scale solar PV projects, in Jordan and Egypt. This included the region’s first private sector solar PV concession with non-recourse financing, in addition to the three (3) PV projects selling electricity to the national utilities in Jordan and Egypt. The PV projects ranged in size from 11MWp to 65MWp. These projects operated at the highest technical and ESG standards, with the support of Catalyst’s investors, primarily EU Governments. Catalyst has made a significant impact on the renewable energy landscape by developing some of the MENA region’s first utility scale solar PV projects, across Jordan and Egypt.
Catalyst’s work in the MENA region has special strategic significance for Europe, in that it directly impacts energy availability to Europe and also creates jobs including for refugees thus reducing migration to neighboring European countries.
Catalyst Investment Management, based in Jordan, looks forward to raising the bar on best practices, and continuing its mission of creating a more sustainable future through impactful investments in the Middle East and North Africa, including becoming a 2X Flagship fund.
